Jen and I would like to thank you for your support of the News Blog once again. We really enjoy hearing from you and your kind words. It means a lot when you work in a room with a computer that other people agree with you.
I think it's clear that we do things differently here, that this isn't about politics alone. We're quirky,off-beat and a needed tonic from the hyperseriousness of some of our collegues. I know some sites are wrapped up in the midterms, but to me, Jen is both girly and sports indifferent, the most important political event this month is in Germany.
We think that to understand politics , you have to talk about more than elections and bills. There's a wider society out there and to be effective, you have to understand it. We do a lot of serious stuff, and as one person wrote to me "it's nice to see a New York blog about more than Drinking and shoes".There are others, Lawyers, Guns and Money, Sisyphus Shrugged, Majikthese and of course, JimWolcott. Good people doing honest work.
And I'd especially like to thank our veteran and active duty audience. You've been lied to a long time about who cares about what happens to you and if in some small way we've redressed that, it's a good thing. I've seen this before, and I want to do what I can to prevent the Vietnam Era neglect from repeating itself. And that wasn't something I read in a book.
But most of all, and most unexpectedly of all, is the devoted soccer followers who come here. It's always fun to argue with people about something far more important than life and death.
