OK, today is the first day of the World Cup. Why do we care so much? Because it is the world's premier sporting event, in the world's largest entertainment business,
Blogs are the place where ideas go to grow and be challenged. It's not that I don't like other sports, but the American media sucks at explaining soccer in the world. This is the first year Americans get that this is like a world holiday. It transcends sports in a way the Olympics wishes it could.
Which is why we talk about it so much. Because it matter beyond America and it's something you need to understand to understand people. Nothing is more frustrating when you see Americans handing out American footballs and baseballs in Iraq, where Premiership gear is common. They don't even understand how kids play.
Understanding soccer, like it or not, is a way to understand the world.
OH yeah, tommorow is the last day of the drive.
