The scale of the problem

Watching the Republicans play damage control has provided some slight amusement. They attack the kids, bring up Gerry Studds, Bill Clinton, as if there is anything which could mitigate this mess.
Foley has a known history of hitting on pages and the House leadership promoted him, took his money and almost let him run for Senate.
The problem isn't that Foley is alone in his child sex predation, but that he forced the House leadership to cover it up. It is amazing to see the Republicans misjudge the way people will react to this. The Catholic Church is still reeling, Michael Jackson exiled because of this kind of thing.
Arguing age of consent is also beyond the point, because, so far, we're not talking about child molestation, although I bet that changes. Twelve years is a long time to be in Congress and this behavior didn't start in Washington or in 2001. He was driving kids around in his car. He was taking them for expensive lunches. Why? Even troglodite Bay Buchanan gets that says predator.
The way out is so simple: toss Hastert and Boehner under the bus. Don't sit there and piss off the parents of America with this nonsense. If they wouldn't tolerate this crap from priests, why would they tolerate it from politicians. It's even stupid to toss other names in the air. Just cut off the losers and move on. Don't let Rush and Drudge make it so the soccer moms decide, as was said on MSNBC today, the Republicans are the party of criminals and pedophiles.
I could care less about the party of a child sex predator or his friends. His lusting for teen boys in his charge, and the help he got goes beyond party.
What is is about men in power who forget what people expect of them and the care of their children?
Women get this, they get what happened. Notice the silence of the Ingrahams and Coulters on this. As loathesome as they are, they know what it's like for a horny old man to come after them. They may join the team in the end, but they seem less than eager to jump in the fray, like the fundies.
