A Spoonful Of PR Helps The Amnesty Go Down Hotlist

Yes, my conservative friends, George Bush has sold you down the river. Now, you're finally starting to suspect that it was never about abortion or limiting government or even national security. Those were just useful emotional distractions held by the left hand so that the right one could deftly rip-off the Federal Treasury and enact measures preventing We the People from interfering with the heist. True, a lot of people here on Daily Kos would take this chance to laugh at your naiveté, because you stood behind this President after so many cluster-fucks, scams, and lies that we figure you should have known better by now. But you're loyal, in an abused-spouse-on-COPS kind of way, and that's an admirable quality even when tragically misplaced. So let me instead warmly welcome you to the reality based community!

Unclaimed Territory--So, by the end of the night, the President's speech even made Hugh Hewitt angry. Does the White House do anything right anymore? If this speech wasn't going to serve up some of those extremist measures necessary to satisfy Bush's rabid, voracious base, what was the point of it?

Bush is going to tie up roughly a quarter million guardsmen a year in two-week shifts of 6,000, to sit in the desert, unarmed, and serve as PR props. Every now and then we'll see Bush the Border President down south, riding along with guard troops and IMS agents--or possibly actors playing them--in a fierce looking Humvee. Maybe we'll get to see him pretend to clear border brush, chase some illegals, and lay a little barb wire for the cameras. While off screen, the undocumented traffic will flow and back in DC his minions will use every trick in Rove's book to force amnesty down the throat of the GOP.

Who knows? Maybe the rest of the GOP will play it smart politically. After all, it's just a jump to the left, and then a liberal step into the light, to court these new voters. Perhaps the Republicans will pass a Constitutional Amendment recognizing Espanola as an official language of the United States. And the conservatives can make further inroads by getting behind affordable housing with big bucks, funding Spanish classes in elementary schools, extending student loan programs for disadvantaged college kids, and revamping our healthcare system to provide decent medical treatment for these new citizens. Maybe Bush or McCain will proudly stand up in a speech and say "Yo soy Mexicana!" Maybe the crazy right will adopt a more genial approach and even enroll in some basic Spanish classes themselves so they can keep up with the times? But then again, a funny thing happens when a base is pumped full of racist hatred, insecurity, and terror for years on end (Via C & L):

World Net Daily-- [Bush] lied when he said: "Massive deportation of the people here is unrealistic - it's just not going to work." Not only will it work, but one can easily estimate how long it would take. If it took the Germans less than four years to rid themselves of 6 million Jews, many of whom spoke German and were fully integrated into German society, it couldn't possibly take more than eight years to deport 12 million illegal aliens, many of whom don't speak English and are not integrated into American society.

I don't suppose it would be worth trying to explain to the writers of that dismal rag that it was a lot easier for the Third Reich to move people to any location when they were being shipped like cattle to slaughter. Or that when the Final Solution is to cremate every man, woman, and child en masse, there are no pesky logistical details like food, clothing, or shelter to slow down the operation. But regardless of the specifics, any voting base that advises treating millions of people with ruthless Nazi efficiency is unlikely to win over many ideological converts from the targeted victims and bring them into the conservative fold.

Here's another disturbing dose of reality for the right: By looking the other way on illegal immigration, and especially by granting amnesty, millions of existing illegal immigrants will be signed up as new voters. Bush is hell bent on swelling the ranks of the Democratic Party and you can count on your corrupt GOP congress critters to wax rhetorically for show, while rolling over privately to Big Business.

And a lot of these new Americans stem from diverse cultures that value education and are big on organized labor. These folks might hail from places like Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, maybe a few with roots stretching from El Salvador, like the guy who started this blog, Markos Moulitsas ZĂșniga , or "Kos". That's worked out pretty good for the conservative spin machine, huh? Many of them will carry a brave heritage of public protest and non-violent civil disobedience with them. I mean geez; some of them marched in the streets of their homeland, even when it meant being caught in deadly crossfire between government sanctioned death squads and gangs of ruthless rebel insurgents. So I don't think they're gonna be scared out of doing that here by Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter calling them names on the radio.

Here's the best part of all: While the GOP has gerrymandered themselves into a political strait jacket, most of us on this side of the aisle are OK with some version of the Bush-Kennedy amnesty plan. It's realistic and moral. But the icing on the cake is that it will hasten the inevitable day when the Republican Party is a permanent minority due to the fastest growing segment of our population becoming eligible to vote for democrats. Although I must admit we never, ever foresaw George Bush as the midwife of progressive ascendancy and the executioner of neo-conservatism. Hasta la vista republicanistas!

Ken Mehlman, after a careful strategy of courting minorities, must be sick to his stomach on a daily basis. His dream, his lovely dream, despoiled by rednecks with a no Mexicans allowed policy, it's all ruined. Those brutes, those awful, awful brutes, ruining his lovely flower of a policy.

I bet he cries himself to sleep.
