Fund Drive: Day 4

I'm cute, and my claws will rip your face off

Donate

This song has been ringing in my head:

The best things in life are free
But you can keep them for the birds and bees
Now give me money
That's what I want
That's what I want, yeah
That's what I want

You're lovin' gives me a thrill
But you're lovin' don't pay my bills
Now give me money
That's what I want
That's what I want, yeah
That's what I want

Money don't get everything it's true
What it don't get, I can't use
Now give me money
That's what I want
That's what I want, yeah
That's what I want, wah

Money don't get everything it's true
What it don't get, I can't use
Now give me money
That's what I want
That's what I want, yeah
That's what I want

Well now give me money
Ow, money
Wow, yeah, I wanna be free
Oh I want money
That's what I want
That's what I want, well
Now give me money
ow, money
Wow, yeah, you need money
now, give me money
That's what I want, yeah
that's what I want, yeah

Someone sent me the following, today, it read in part:

Almost everyone has a couple liberal and increasingly irrelevant magazine subscriptions. ....... Some yearly figures, if you are interested:

Harper's: 15
American Prospect: 20
Nation: 30
Salon: 35
TNR: 40
NYRB: 66
Steve Gilliard's Attitude: Priceless.

Now, $40 for the TNR? Why read it in TNR when you can see it on Fox and you already paid for that. Why support the Nation? So they can miss the point yet again?

What people miss is that all these magazines come from a very small segment of America, people who while great at theory have no idea what hard work is like. The Nation isn't exactly hiring their interns from City College any more the New York Book Review is. The entire lot of them haven't changed their hiring practices since Binky hired Chip. I'm tired of picking up "liberal" magazines which lacks labor, minorities or the poor as anything but the occasional subject. Or as objects of pity. It's the same club over and over hiring the same people and washing each other's backs. It is tiresome to read if nothing else.

You give me money, I benefit. Sure, that's an undeniable fact. But at least you know I'm not running around the Beltway and listening to those people. It is just fucking ridiculous that you have to go to Harvard to have a valid opinion in a magazine.

It is time to stop supporting these organs, which don't really represent your feelings and support those who do.

It's a free market and it's time to use the power of the market to stop supporting the club and hear some new voices in the national debate. We need opinions which reflect America, not just the Harvard class of 2000.

Remember, every dollar which goes to TNR, a dime goes to Peter Beinart's lip baum, to sooth his lips after a day of rimming PNAC ass.:) he runs through the stuff.
